BamaPreps Weekly Roundtable Week 4
Welcome to the BamaPreps Weekly Roundtable! Each week, the team will break down the
biggest matchups and the best performances across the state of Alabama. From Huntsville to
Mobile, the best coverage of the gridiron is right here on BamaPreps.
Week 4 is here, and we are somehow already almost halfway through the regular season. There
are still some huge games to help separate the contenders and the pretenders, and a few stars
have emerged throughout the state. Let’s dive into a pretty big week of action across the state of
Alabama!
If you could become head coach of any school which would it be and why?
VLAD VALASIUK: Thompson. Some of the best administration top down in the state. Great facilities and
resources.
TP HAMMOCK: Saint James, have to coach for the Alma mater
NOAH WILLOUGHBY: I’ll take Orange Beach. Live at the beach. Community that supports the school.
Elite facilities. Decently manageable region.
TREY LEE: It has to be Orange Beach or Gulf Shores. Living at the beach paired with the incredible
facilities is an incredible gig.
JON LUNCEFORD: I’d have to pick Orange Beach or Gulf Shores for the facilities and living at the
beach! They aren’t too bad at football this year either!
Give me your Top 5 uniform combos from across the state.
VLAD: Off the top of my head in no particular order:
Mary G. Baby Blue
Thompson Blackout
James Clemens Baby Blue
Prattville Red-White-Red
Hoover all Black
TP: Thompson, Parker, Oxford, McGill, TR Miller
NOAH: This one is really tough. I’ve got five in no particular order.
Thompson’s new jersey’s this year
Spain Park baby blues
Central Phenix City all black uniforms
Buckhorn specifically their buck helmets
Pike Road Away uniforms
DAVID: Gulf Shores, Saraland, Cherokee County, Buckhorn, Corner
TREY: Lee-Scott’s Red on White Home unis with the spear helmet
Mountain Brook’s Gold-Green-Gold
Opelika’s Red on Black with the red helmets
Thompson’s All Greys – their new all whites are sick too
Pell City’s Gold helmet with black unis
JON: I’m biased but Homewood’s red jersey and white pants like the old school Patriots is tops. Outside of
that, I’m a sucker for the light blue of Spain Park and James Clemens. Thompsons red jersey with a white
helmet slaps too. Then I’d probably go back to Gulf Shores and their teal look.
Best individual performance from Week 3?
VLAD: Northside Bennett Green
TP: Gulf Shores offense, I know it’s vague but they battled back
NOAH: Can’t think of just one individual. But I was at the Leeds game and their offense looked great. I’ll
shout out Taylon Gaiter, their slot receiver/gadget guy. He’s electric.
DAVID: Charlie Taaffe, Vestavia Hills with over 400 yards of total offense. He completed 14-of-18 passes
for 324 yards and 3 TDs and added 82 yards rushing on 15 carries.
TREY: Brody Blevins continues to show out for Westbrook Christian, throwing 5 touchdowns and adding
one on the ground in the Warriors’ bludgeoning of defending state champion Coosa Christian this past week.
JON: Gotta go with Deshawn Hall from Prattville with a clutch catch to get the win over Hoover. He finished
with 10 catches for 169 yards.
What undefeated team has impressed you the most this year?
VLAD: Childersburg! 4-0 and still trucking!
TP: Thompson, they’ve slaughtered excellent competition
NOAH: I’m going to try and be different and say Winterboro.
DAVID: Hillcrest Tuscaloosa
TREY: Marbury. They’ve been dominant in wins over Shelby County, Chilton County, Elmore County, and
Tallassee. There are a few region games on the horizon to look out for, but the Bulldogs are in the driver seat
for their region so far.
JON: Prattville – a win over Hoover and they are looking strong. Could be the 2-seed out of the tough as nails
region 3. Also Hillcrest, maybe the actual second best team in the state the way they are playing. If they were
still in 6A region 3, they could make some serious noise. Probably my favorite in 6A right now.
Can Hoover bounce back against Oak Mountain after losing two straight?
VLAD: Yes. Hoover‘s defense is still very strong, even in their losses they’ve had great flashes.
TP: Boy I hope so, or else
NOAH: Most likely. But could be a big statement for Coach Kervin in the Eagles if they can knock off
Hoover.
DAVID: Yes
TREY: I think so. They need some momentum heading into the back half of the year filled with matchups
against Thompson, Spain Park, and Vestavia Hills.
JON: Oak Mountain is getting there but all of region 3 is just a tough hill to climb, including Hoover. I won’t
say it’s impossible but take Hoover.
Will anyone stop Briarwood this season, or will the Lions hoist a Blue Map in Mobile in
December?
VLAD: Probably not. Lions look great
TP: Maybe McGill, but they look great
NOAH: The only people that can stop them is one of the Mobile privates. It’s a toss up between, McGill, St
Pauls, or UMS Wright.
DAVID: Possibly St. Michael with a healthy Gunner Rivers.
TREY: I’m very interested to see how the Lions fare against Madison Academy this week and when they play
American Christian. Briarwood is the clear favorite there, but MA and ACA are well equipped to take them on.
JON: Nope. I saw them first hand a couple of weeks ago and they are big and fast while the south is
struggling a bit. We’ll see if ACA or someone in the north can challenge them at all but I don’t see it.
Who has the advantage heading into Prattville vs. Hewitt-Trussville?
VLAD: Hewitt. Big week for them carrying a lot of momentum. Prattville did have to come into a tough
environment, but eventually got the job done. I look for this game to be very close.
TP: Hewitt Trussville has Jack Floyd at QB
NOAH: Give me Prattville. Just talent all over the field. Should be a really good game.
DAVID: Hewitt-Trussville. I just think they have been here before and Prattville is coming off an very
emotional win against Hoover.
TREY: I think its Prattville – coming off a big win against Hoover last week to stay undefeated, I think they
have a ton of confidence in their offense going forward.
JON: I think Prattville despite their Hoover win not being quite as impressive (although on the road vs
Hewitt’s at home. Hewitt has definitely been tested more this season, but Deshawn Hall is the X Factor.
What matchup are you most looking forward to most in Week 3?
VLAD: Oxford vs Clay-Chalkville. This is Clay‘s first REAL test since Thompson, and the yellow jackets
are undefeated Heading into this matchup. Could be a game of the week material.
TP: Auburn vs Central Phenix City
NOAH: Prattville vs Hewitt, let’s see if Prattville is for real.
DAVID: Prattville at Hewitt-Trussville
TREY: Oxford vs. Clay-Chalkville always delivers, and it looks to be another heavyweight battle this year.
JON: Spain Park at Vestavia – both have been humbled by Thompson but both can still very much finish
second and get that first round bye. This game will go a long way toward telling us what kind of season these
two will actually have.
Who is your Winner of the Week?
Choose one former Alabama high school player/coach playing/coaching at the collegiate or
professional level. List their stats/accomplishments from this past week.
VLAD: Peter Woods. NFL Debut!
TP: David Parker for saving the AHSFHS
NOAH: I want to highlight former Citronelle Wildcat and Alabama walk on Lance Taylor. His Western
Michigan Broncos got robbed the other week against Michigan. Coach Taylor is doing a great job as the head
coach at Western Michigan.
DAVID: Gio Lopez played HS football at James Clemens. Last week at Wake Forest he completed 16 of 17
passes for 225 yards and a TD. He also ran for 59 yards and scored 2 TDs including the game winner.
TREY: Eric Winters has been a force for the Tigers defense this season, receiving SEC Defensive Player of
the Week honors after his game-saving tackle against Baylor.
JON: Nico Collins – that dude continues to impress. I remember watching him in 7 on 7’s in high school and
he was just as amazing then as he is now. He had 7 catches for 75 yards and a touchdown in their first game
against the Bills, and will be a major reason if the Texans are good this year.
Predictions & Final Score for Auburn vs. Central Phenix City
VLAD: 31-28 Central
TP: 42-35 Red Devils
NOAH: 24-17 Helena keeps it rolling.
DAVID: 28-20 Central
TREY: CPC 24 Auburn 20
JON: 35-21 Central
